The Project

Pretzel vs Donuts is a twin-stick shooter where the player will assume control of a Pretzel in a battle between sweet snacks.

 

The levels in the game will consist of progressive boss fights, divided into stages where the behavior of the level changes throughout each stage.

 

Through a combination of power-up, agility, precise aiming, and quick reflexes, the player will face the challenge of defeating the mighty bosses of the sweet army and emerging victorious in the war between the sweet snacks until the end of the ages… if this is the real objective of the brave Pretzel.

  • Food-Based Mechanics

    • Gameplay mechanics inspired by food, with levels featuring food elements and bakery themes.

    • The protagonist is a brave pretzel, while the enemies are represented by donuts and sweet foods.

​

  • Drink Power-Up

    • Power-ups are represented by drinks that enhance player abilities.

    • Unique effects for each Power-Up, starting with the "Soda Power-Up."

    • Soda transforms bullets to purple, increases speed, and grants an extra life.

​

  • Fast Respawn

    • Inspired by Super Meat Boy, the game allows for frequent deaths.

    • A fast respawn system reduces downtime, encouraging players to experiment.

  • Humorous Elements

    • Googly eyes and playful food elements create a lighthearted atmosphere, adding humor to the core experience and making gameplay more enjoyable.

  • Player

    • Designed smaller compared to colossal bosses for epic battles against giant candy monsters.

    • Offers satisfying movement and rapid shooting capabilities, upgradeable with power-ups.

    • Intuitive controls with gameplay complexity adapting to challenging situations.

    • The player's agility and quick reflexes are crucial in intense twin-stick shooting action.

  • Enemies

    • Weak and Strong Points

      • Enemies have invulnerable covered and vibrant parts.

      • Weak points associated with shades of brown and yellow, glowing when hit.

    • Mob Spawn Points

      • Spawn points appear randomly on the screen, signaled by spinning stars with a powerful gleam.

      • Gleam emits light, allowing players to detect spawn points.

      • Mobs may emerge from existing enemies, associated with the color blue.

    • Telegraphing

      • Telegraphing is emphasized during boss encounters.

      • Utilizes the glow effect on the boss's key visual elements.

      • Players anticipate the boss' movements and attacks with glowing elements.

  • Progression

    • Level progression focuses on changes in boss behavior and visual transformations without traditional health bars.

    • Each level introduces new challenges as bosses adapt attack patterns.

    • Indicators show transitions between stages.

  • Post-Level Stats

    • Between levels, players view past-level stats on a ranking screen.

    • ​Reflection and Improvement: Analyze past performance for enhancement.

    • ​​Motivation and Achievement: Progress boosts motivation and a sense of accomplishment.

    • Goal Setting: Personal records inspire players to aim for better results.

    • Feedback and Learning: Stats aid in learning and encourage retries for improvement.
